Suka Menanti state assemblyperson Zamri Yusuf was named the new opposition leader for the Kedah state assembly, replacing Johari Abdul who vacated his Gurun seat in December.
The appointment of Zamri (above), who is from PKR, was announced by state assembly speaker Juhari Bulat before the oral question and answer session at the Kedah state assembly sitting in Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Setar, today.
Juhari also said the Gurun seat will remain vacant until the end of the state government’s term.
On Dec 18 last year, Johari announced his decision to vacate the Gurun seat with immediate effect and said he submitted a letter on the matter to the Kedah speaker on Dec 13.
The 67-year-old PKR veteran was elected speaker of the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 19.
Meanwhile, Juhari announced that Alor Mengkudu assemblyperson Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi is now a Pakatan Harapan-PKR elected representative.
The former Kedah Amanah chairperson was reportedly sacked from Amanah for violating the party’s constitution.
