PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that Perikatan Nasional (PN) rejected Pejuang’s application to join the coalition due to the latter’s demands.
According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, the Kubang Kerian MP suggested that the minor party dissolve itself and have its members join PAS or Bersatu instead.
“The (state) elections are close. We discussed how accepting them (Pejuang) would complicate the ongoing negotiations for seats.
“They are not a major Malay party like Umno and Bersatu. Even though it contests in elections, it loses almost every contest, even losing their deposits,” Tuan Ibrahim (above) said.
In GE15, Pejuang was emphatically rejected by voters, with every candidate including former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad losing their deposits.
The party has since lurched into crisis, with Mahathir joining Ibrahim Ali’s Putra while his son Mukhriz attempted to steer them into the PN coalition.
Tuan Ibrahim said that Pejuang was too small to help PN in its ambitions to “unite the ummah” and suggested that Pejuang was desperate to retain its state seats in Kedah and Selangor.
Aside from Mukhriz in Jitra, Pejuang also holds three other state seats but they were all won when the candidates were running under Bersatu/Pakatan Harapan in 2018.
“I believe they know they do not stand a chance if they go it alone and this is why they are looking for partners,” he said.
He added that it was better for Pejuang to dissolve rather than having many small parties. - Mkini
