PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional will discuss on Sunday the seat distribution for the upcoming state elections, says PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the seat distribution would be discussed at the unity government’s secretariat meeting which would be chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Menara Dato’ Onn.
This is the first time PH is holding seat negotiations with BN but Saifuddin is not expecting it to be “difficult”.
“The negotiations with BN are clear, it is not difficult as we know about each other’s strengths and limitations,” he told reporters at a press conference at PKR’s headquarters.
Saifuddin, who is also home minister, said the discussion on the seat distribution would take into account the incumbent, performance during the last general election and identify candidates who would be able to win.
When asked if PKR and PH were ready to sacrifice rural seats to Umno at the state elections, Saifuddin said geographical factors would be considered.
“Our cooperation is clear, if Umno contests, we will not, that is the basic understanding.”
Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah will hold their state elections this year. - FMT
