Police question 'Mentega Terbang' producer, six others

 

Police have questioned the producer of the controversial film ‘Mentega Terbang’ today, along with six of the movie’s actors.

In a statement, the police said Bukit Aman’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit recorded their statements at 1pm.

“The case is still under the unit’s investigation, and any developments will be announced later,” said police secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin.

The film which aired on the streaming service Viu tells the story of 15-year-old Aishah as she grapples with questions about life after death in various religions when faced with her mother’s terminal illness, but some groups such as the Muslim Consumers Association and Putra found it offensive.

Last Friday, police questioned the film’s director Mohd Khairi Anwar Jalani and one of its actors Arjun Thanaraju.

It was reported that the case is being investigated under Sections 289A and 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had also found the film’s content to be in contradiction with the beliefs and way of life of Muslims in the country.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar had said Jakim will submit a detailed review to the Communications and Multimedia Commission so that action can be taken according to the law.

The Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi) was also asked to summon those involved in the film’s production for further action, Na’im added. - Mkini
