The management of Privacy Club Tun Razak has apologised over its now-cancelled plan to feature "Thai Hot Guy” - a performance by Thai men in skimpy clothing - at its planned grand opening on March 30.
Their statement was issued several hours after police visited the club located along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, this afternoon and issued its management a stern warning.
"In response to the issue that went viral on social media over the official opening of Privacy Club Tun Razak, we apologise and would like to inform that the programme, which was supposed to feature 'Thai Hot Guy' on March 30, has been cancelled.
"Privacy Tun Razak respects religious sensitivities in this country and will not go against any laws,” the management said.
"All media releases on the programme were done without our approval and we apologise for the mistake that happened.
"Once again, we apologise for any difficulties that happened and on the ground of respecting religious and racial sensitivities, the programme has been cancelled," it added.
Earlier, Wangsa Maju District police chief Ashari Abu Samah said they found out about the planned event featuring buff male performers from Thailand through a video that went viral yesterday.
Police have since received 60 reports lodged against the programme as of 4pm today, he said.
News of the event has since triggered an uproar from PAS, which objected to the event.
The issue also caught the attention of the Prime Minister's Office and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Azman Abidin, one of the prime minister's political secretaries, reportedly said the Privacy Club at Jalan Tun Razak did not have an entertainment licence, nor did it apply for permission to host this entertainment programme. - Mkini
