PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah has accused the government of resorting to an act of vengeance.
The Pahang Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Indera Mahkota member of parliament said this when commenting on the move by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to summon Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.
"It is very unfortunate and regretful since this is a government which is supposed to be a reformist administration but (is instead) conducting an act of vengeance.
"This is something that is improper.
"This is selective political prosecution," he said when met outside the MACC headquarters.
He claimed that the aim of discrediting Muhyiddin was only aimed at crippling Bersatu and PN.
"This is because they (the government) does not have any other way to beat us in the upcoming state election in the six states.
"So they engage in this dirty tactic," he said.
Muhyiddin confirmed in a Facebook post yesterday (hyperlink: https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2023/03/887186/muhyiddin-no-i-havent-...) that he had been summoned to the MACC headquarters at 11am today.
Although he did not specify why he was called, it is learnt that it is related to the Jana Wibawa scandal.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had previously (hyperlink:https://www.nst.com.my/news/crime-courts/2023/02/882697/jana-wibawa-prob...) said the probe by the graft busters against Muhyiddin was on-going.
The Jana Wibawa scheme was introduced by the government under Muhyiddin's administration to speed up project implementation and boost the country's economy during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The scheme was also intended to increase the capacity of Bumiputera/Malay contractors in the construction industry to be more competitive and resilient. - NST
