'Thai Hot Guy' show cancelled on our orders - cops

The organiser of “Thai Hot Guy” - a performance by Thai men in skimpy clothing at a nightclub in Kuala Lumpur - has called off the event on police orders.

This is according to a statement by Wangsa Maju District police chief Ashari Abu Samah, who said the police visited the club earlier this afternoon and issued its management a stern warning.

“Police have issued a stern warning against the programme organiser to discontinue and call it off.

“The organiser and club management have agreed to comply with the order to cancel it, and no such programme or activity will be conducted.

“Police will continuously monitor the premises and we will take action should there be any violation of the law,” Ashari said.

According to the district police chief, they found out about the planned event through a video that went viral yesterday.

60 police reports lodged

Police have since received 60 reports lodged against the programme as of 4pm today, Ashari said.

"Police are concerned about such programmes that touch on religious and racial sensitivity, which can lead to the disruption of public order.

"Following this, the Wangsa Maju District police held a meeting with the event organiser and the club management at 2.30pm today."

The Privacy Club is reportedly inviting "Thai Hot Guy" - a group of buff male performers from a popular restaurant in Thailand - for its "grand opening" on March 30 (see poster above).

The event was reported by a local web portal, as well as by a nightlife social media account, but was missing from the Privacy Club's Facebook page on checks by Malaysiakini today.

The club's Facebook page shows that it held a "grand opening" in September last year and several other musical performances since then.

News of the event has since triggered an uproar from PAS, which objected to the event.

The issue also caught the attention of the Prime Minister's Office and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Azman Abidin, one of the prime minister's political secretaries, reportedly said the Privacy Club at Jalan Tun Razak did not have an entertainment licence, nor did it apply for permission to host this entertainment programme.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said having such a show during Ramadan was inappropriate and therefore it should not go on. - Mkini
