Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, the eldest daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was defeated by incumbent Bagan Datuk Wanita Umno chief Zarozatin Isa in a contest for the position.
However, the latest vote count from the Umno elections shows that she will comfortably secure a seat in the national Wanita Umno executive council (exco).
“Yes, Kak Long (Nurulhidayah) has lost in the run for Bagan Datuk Wanita Umno's chief post to its incumbent,” a party source told Malaysiakini.
It was learned that Nurulhidayah (above) is among the top five frontrunners for the national Wanita Umno exco contest.
Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, is the Bagan Datuk Umno division chief. He retained the position uncontested.
Umno held its elections for its wings’ office bearers yesterday.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian reported that Zainab Samsudin has won the contest for Bagan Datuk Wanita vice-chief.
Competition for the Bagan Datuk Umno Youth chief post saw a new face, Muhammad Nabil Saleh, emerge as the winner, while Mohd Izlahudin Shawani Mohd Nordin secured the Bagan Datuk Umno Youth vice-chief position.
Nurul Salina Mohamad and Nurul Azura Ramli reportedly won the contests for the division’s Puteri chief and vice-chief positions, respectively. - Mkini
