Asyraf: Harapan-BN seat talks almost done, only 9 left

Seat allocation negotiations between Pakatan Harapan and BN for the upcoming state elections are almost done except for nine seats yet to be settled.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said talks at the BN-Harapan Negotiation Committee went smoothly.

This development, he said, puts to rest claims by certain quarters that the federal government was not stable.

“We are at the last stage where the matter is to be finalised at the presidential level. Of the 245 state seats to be contested, we only have nine with overlapping claims.

“I can say that (negotiations) went on very smoothly and harmoniously,” he told reporters after a walkabout at the Mara Educational Institution carnival in Johor Bahru yesterday.

The six states facing elections soon are Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, and Kelantan.

Asyraf (above), who is also the coalition government’s secretariat head, said the overlapping claims to the nine seats, involving all six states, will be finalised by the top leadership.

Meanwhile, in Selangor, only two seats have not been finalised in the negotiations between Harapan and BN for the upcoming state election.

Both seats will be referred to the central party leadership soon for further action, said Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

“So far, 95 percent of seat allocation talks are complete. (Harapan-BN) talks are done and only two seats have not been settled, which will be decided by the central leadership,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the 2023 Selangor Mega Job Carnival in Shah Alam yesterday.

There are 56 seats to be contested in Selangor.
