YOURSAY | Will Penang remain Harapan fortress?

YOURSAY | ‘The impression that PN is with the people is a false narrative.’

PN to capture Penang? Saifuddin calls out Muhyiddin's 'propaganda'

Thunderbolt: Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, if Penang falls to Perikatan Nasional, it is because of people like you, including your unity government.

Don't forget that Penang is a predominantly Chinese state; most voted for Pakatan Harapan in the last general election. They can change their mind if they are forced to.

Recently, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for a meeting to discuss the way forward for our economy.

It looks like a meeting of Malays. Malaysia's economy, whether we like it or not, is driven by the Chinese primarily, but not a single Chinese economist or Chinese business giant was included in the meeting or consulted. Why?

This meeting makes a mockery of the word "unity government".

Compounded on this, we don't see much action or reforms so far but only a lot of grand rhetoric from our prime minister and his ministers.

A lot of talks, no action, period. Meanwhile, our economy is free-falling with a lacklustre KLSE and a free-falling ringgit.

Look at our Bank Negara governor, how did she address the fall of the ringgit? It’s just a lot of hot air which amounts to nothing and which produces no result to advance the ringgit.

Things, instead of getting better under the unity government, are getting worse. Saifuddin, you can do the country a great favour by being bold, decisive and, if you have to, implement merit-based solutions.

Listen and learn from eminent leaders like China’s revolutionary leader Deng Xiaoping who had the guts and gumption to change course and tell his people, it doesn't matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice.

Look at China today. Malaysia is in dire straits, no thanks to 30 years of misrule compounded by the absence of meritocracy.

Change and reform must come now, not before the 16th general election, not next year and not tomorrow.

Clever voter: The impression that PN is with the people is a false narrative. The performance of the PAS government speaks for itself.

Then we have a Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who twisted history to win a few brownie points.

The past performance of Gerakan is nothing to shout about, and the biggest elephant in the room is Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin himself, a failed former prime minister who is under investigation.

The state of Penang continues to enjoy a budget surplus, the economy continues to attract foreign attention, and its performance on its social fronts is relatively better.

It's hard to imagine a scenario where its people turn their backs on who is better at governing.

Kalu: Muhyiddin seems to have forged and led a coalition that allegedly includes some notorious and unscrupulous politicians.

He remains tainted in his political reputation, especially after his brief term as prime minister.

There, however, seem to be others on both sides of the bench. These developments are quite telling regarding the nature of racial and money politics in the nation.

This has been going on for some decades, it seems.

Unfortunately, the immediate future also looks bleak, for political goodness in general to prevail.

Since politics here has long been intertwined with money, elements of warlord-ism have crept into politics because of its present misfortune.

Apparently, there was much looting of public wealth together with the emergence of such political warlord-ism amongst one-time colleagues, partners and national leaders.

The layperson in the street is left forlorn and bemoans their fate.

Yet he will probably get the same kind of leaders he deserves as he is stuck for choices and with sensitive communal circumstances.

There is every likelihood for the likes of PN Selangor chief Azmin Ali to succeed. Best wishes to him.

Pink: Saifuddin is known for making one blunder after another. He never knows the dangers that lie ahead until they hit him.

He may not even be aware that he had lost in the last general election and has been sleepwalking in his job.

First, he blundered on the Allah issue and let Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi visit former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in prison for two hours, including having a sumptuous meal.

Penang is ripe for the picking for PN. Ignore Muhyiddin at your peril. - Mkini
