An Umno Youth delegate debating party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s policy speech today has urged top leaders to embrace members who remain loyal despite being suspended or sacked.
Umno Youth treasurer Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar in his speech pointed out the party now requires all the strength to rebuild itself as one that can be accepted by the people.
“I’m confident, and I believe that many among us here share my feelings,” said the Kinabatangan Umno Youth chief.
“So Umno Youth is requesting the supreme council, any of our leaders who have been sacked or suspended; those who have yet to join any other party; those who continue to love our party.
“We ask that those who remain loyal and waiting to be called back into our party, for them to be reaccepted,” said Kurniawan, who is also a son of Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.
Yesterday, veteran politician Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, who is serving a six-year suspension, said he will not leave Umno and will be the last person to do so.
Kurniawan stressed that Umno can now no longer afford to be divided, echoing sentiments raised by previous delegates debating Zahid’s speech, for the party to reaffirm its position now with new partners in government.
“Enough is enough. Out with the old, in with the new,” he added.
Aside from Tajuddin, among prominent names who faced action from Umno but have yet to formally join any other parties include former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.
Unlike Tajuddin, the duo has made no indications of their intention to rejoin Umno. - Mkini
