Govt MP applauds vaccination efforts by Muhyiddin, Ismail

 

Hassan Karim of PKR says Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob did their best in dealing with Covid-19.

PETALING JAYA: A backbencher has applauded the governments of Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob for their efforts to immunise the population against Covid-19 at the height of the pandemic.

Hassan Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) said the two former prime ministers provided the necessary leadership and fulfilled their responsibilities in the top post, despite the criticisms levelled at them at the time.

“Whether we like it or not, Sheraton (Move) or backdoor government, but (Muhyiddin) and (Ismail) did their best and we had leadership at that time,” he said when debating the health white paper in the Dewan Rakyat.

Hassan, who is from PKR, said Muhyiddin’s government, in particular, provided a sense of direction and unity for the country at a critical period of time.

Hassan also thanked health workers and the health ministry for helping combat the spread of Covid-19.

However, he claimed the Perikatan Nasional government’s agreements with suppliers like Pfizer were “lopsided”. He said suppliers would not have been held responsible if the vaccines were not delivered.

“Even the prices of the vaccines were kept secret. These suppliers did not want to bear the risk, so it’s evident that this agreement was biased,” he said.

The national vaccination campaign, coordinated by then minister Khairy Jamaluddin, was rolled out in February 2021 and played a key role in ending the pandemic in Malaysia. - FMT
