Pakatan Harapan has filed a police report against independent preacher Zainul Asri Mohd Romli for allegedly making seditious statements by equating Kedah’s ‘political enemies’ to ‘enemies of Allah’.
The report was made over Zainul’s speech during the ‘Himpunan Kedah Berselawat’ on June 24 where he expressed hope that Allah would defend Kedah from being taken over by His enemies.
Harapan media mobilisation bureau chief Mohamad Yahya made the report at the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur at 10.49am today.
He claimed that the term “Allah’s enemies” was used by terrorists and extremists to convince their followers to disobey the law.
“Looking at the words said, it is clear that he was referring to the state election that will take place soon.
Form of sedition
“By equating political enemies with Allah’s enemies, it means that political enemies can be attacked - as per incidents that have taken place in the past.
“Such expressions are a form of sedition and can clearly cause misunderstandings among the people. It is dangerous to the stability and security of the country and threatens public order.
“The words ‘enemies of Allah’ is often used by terrorists and extremist groups to incite their followers to act outside the limits of the law. This matter must be stopped immediately," he said in the report, sighted by Malaysiakini.
Malaysiakini's review found that a video featuring Zainul Asri's speech has gone viral on social media.
In the video, Zainul called on Muslims to increase their prayers before the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.
"May God protect this country from being overthrown by Allah’s enemies and may Allah’s religion be won, insyaAllah (God willing),” he said, followed by three chants of takbir. - Mkini
