Former PKR lawmaker Fauzi Abdul Rahman has been appointed as the new non-executive chairperson of MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyHSR Corp) effective June 22.
MyHSR Corp is a government company formed in 2015 to develop the long-stalled high-speed rail (HSR) project.
In a statement today, the firm said Fauzi (above) would play an important role in realising the government's goal to privatise the project.
"With impeccable credentials in the engineering field and having served on the board of numerous government agencies and private companies, Fauzi will provide strategic guidance and support to the board while ensuring MyHSR Corp fulfils the aspiration of the government to fully privatise the HSR project through a Private Financing Initiative (PFI)," said company CEO Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal.
According to his biography, the former Indera Mahkota MP holds a degree in mining engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, and has served as an engineer in several private and government entities before.
This is Fauzi's second time being appointed to a rail-linked GLC.
Previously, he was a director on Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd from 2018 to 2021.
He is currently the Pahang PKR adviser.
The HSR was originally supposed to link Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
However, Putrajaya terminated the deal with Singapore in 2021.
The Madani administration's position is for the project to only resume if privately funded. - Mkini
