All is well in Perikatan Nasional despite rumours of a rift within Bersatu, according to PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
Speaking during a press conference after chairing PN's presidential council meeting, the Bersatu president described the rumours as being created by parties with no other ways to discredit the coalition ahead of the upcoming six state elections.
"There are absolutely no problems between PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan. Even internally, in each party, everything is peaceful.
"There's no fighting, (the rumours) were simply made up. Don't believe them," said Muhyiddin.
"When did Hamzah (Zainudin) and I fight?" said Muhyiddin in reference to the Bersatu secretary-general when asked for comments over media reports, quoting sources, who claimed the two leaders are at loggerheads over the direction Bersatu is taking.
Hamzah was present at the press conference today.
'Shared resources'
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also acknowledged that Bersatu will be facing the state elections with limited financial resources as the party's account remains frozen over an ongoing MACC probe.
"Of course, when an election comes like this, all parties require a certain amount of resources to ensure the machinery functions smoothly," he said when asked whether the situation would be a setback for PN.
"The fact that Bersatu’s account is frozen, we have taken that into consideration.
"But the good thing is most party leaders understand the situation and are willing to work hard and undertake the responsibility and cost to minimise the party’s (Bersatu) burden," said Muhyiddin.
Given the circumstances, Muhyiddin said all PN components will utilise their shared resources for the polls.
"Of course, at the same time, when we contest, we contest under PN.
"PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan will put our efforts together and whatever resources we have, we will share to make sure we win," he said.
According to the Election Commission, each state election candidate is required to pay an RM8,000 deposit - RM5,000 to contest and RM3,000 for campaign materials.
Muhyiddin earlier announced that Bersatu will be fielding 83 candidates in the six state elections.
Based on EC's regulations, this would mean Bersatu alone would require at least RM664,000 to cover all the deposits. - Mkini
