Rosmah seeks postponement of corruption case appeal

Rosmah Mansor is seeking to postpone the July hearing of her appeal to overturn her corruption conviction as well as a 10-year jail sentence and RM970 million fine linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project.

Her legal team sought the postponement pending the disposal of a related appeal at the Federal Court.

The wife of incarcerated former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is appealing against a Court of Appeal verdict on June 22 which denied her appeal to commence with her civil challenge to nullify the entire graft case against her.

She has since appealed to the Federal Court over the civil challenge.

When contacted by the media, a member of the prosecution team confirmed what was sought by Rosmah’s legal team, adding the Court of Appeal has yet to set a date to hear her application to postpone the hearing of her solar graft appeal set to run from July 11.

Malaysiakini is attempting to reach out to Rosmah’s legal team over the matter.

On Sept 1 last year, the High Court (criminal jurisdiction) in Kuala Lumpur convicted her in the graft case and sentenced her to 10 years of imprisonment and RM970 million fine.

However, she obtained a stay of execution against the sentencing, and her separate criminal appeal against this guilty verdict is set for hearing before the Court of Appeal on July 11.

In relation to her civil challenge, she contended that the solar corruption case against her is a nullity from the onset due to the invalid appointment of the late former Federal Court judge, Gopal Sri Ram as lead prosecutor in her graft case.

Rosmah is represented by Akberdin Abdul Kader, Jagjit Singh and Azrul Zulkifli Stork.
