Selangor Umno has firmly denied any allegations of boycotting Pakatan Harapan's Mega Madani Tour event held in Shah Alam last Saturday night.
"The event last Saturday was a regular programme organised by Harapan.
"There was never an issue of boycott," Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin told reporters after attending the Selangor BN meeting at the Umno building in Shah Alam last night.
He also mentioned that Harapan and BN had planned to launch a unity government machinery at the state level in the near future.
In addition, Zulkarnain stated that his team engaged in a discussion with Amirudin Shari, who serves as both the Selangor Harapan chairperson and menteri besar, to address this issue.
"Among the main topics that will be discussed is the launch of the coalition government machinery in Selangor and the coordination that we need to make to prepare for the state election.
"We will also make a joint announcement for the launch," he added.
Based on the event poster, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Transport Minister Anthony Loke - who leads PKR, Umno and DAP respectively - were scheduled to attend the event but all three failed to do so.
It was learnt that both Anwar and Loke had other plans to attend to. However, checks with Zahid's office revealed that the BN chairperson was not scheduled to attend the programme.
Speculation grew that Harapan and BN's campaign in Selangor was seen to have started on the wrong foot with reports that Selangor BN declined the invitation to attend the event.
This occurrence is believed by some to be associated with the alleged dissatisfaction arising from the seat allocations in anticipation of the upcoming state elections. - Mkini
