'Unreasonable': Kelantan Harapan chief on seat allocations for polls

Kelantan Pakatan Harapan feels it's unreasonable for BN to contest in three state seats under a parliamentary constituency which has four state seats, in the upcoming state elections.

State Harapan chairperson Muhammad Husain said they are hoping to be given an additional three state seats to contest in, on top of the 14 seats they have already been given.

"It is unreasonable for BN to 'monopolise' three state seats each under the Tumpat, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai parliamentary constituencies, and give the remaining seats to Harapan.

"Doors for negotiation are still open and Harapan is optimistic that the demand for additional seats is fair and will be accepted (by Kelantan BN)," he told Malaysiakini today.

Earlier, Kelantan Umno information chief Zawawi Othman said that BN and Harapan in Kelantan have reached an agreement on seat allocation in preparation for the upcoming state elections.

According to him, Harapan has asked to contest in 14 out of the 45 state constituencies in Kelantan, while BN will take the remaining 31.

The Kelantan state assembly is expected to be automatically dissolved when its term ends on June 26, paving the way for the state election to be held within 60 days of the dissolution.

BN and Harapan are expected to face a tough challenge in cracking PAS’ stronghold in Kelantan as the latter has been holding the state for 33 years.

In the 15th general election, PAS managed a clean sweep of all 14 parliamentary seats in the state. - Mkini
