KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed claims that a drug disguised as sweets, known as "strawberry quick", is being distributed in schools, describing the reports as unfounded.
The allegation has resurfaced on social media in recent days, despite similar claims circulating early last year.
The police said nationwide checks conducted since Feb 5 February last year found no evidence to support the claims.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said no reports or seizures matching the description in the viral messages had been recorded.
"Checks across all state police contingents, as well as records from the police and the Education Ministry, confirmed that the information is baseless," he said.
He added that the images and messages circulating online were likely intended as warnings to parents and teenagers to remain cautious.
"However, spreading unverified information can cause unnecessary concern among the public," he said.
Police have advised the public not to share or believe unverified claims. - NST
