Thunderstorms bring respite from sweltering heat in Penang, Kedah

 More relief from occasional thunderstorms expected this week, but maximum temperatures forecast to remain at 36 degrees Celsius.

After weeks of dry hot weather, Penang and Kedah experienced rain from occasional thunderstorms today.

 Thunderstorms brought some relief from the heatwave in Penang and several areas of Kedah today after weeks of hot and dry weather.

Penang experienced a thunderstorm over parts of the island in the afternoon and evening, while more rain is expected over the next two days, bringing the maximum temperature down slightly to 34 degrees Celsius.

However, the meteorological department forecast more dry days, with occasional showers, and maximum temperatures returning to 36 degrees Celsius from Wednesday, while Kedah and Perlis are expected to experience occasional thunderstorms and 36 degree temperatures all week.

In Kedah, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu and Kuala Muda also received rain today, bringing a break from the sweltering heat, Bernama reported.

State meteorological office director Khalil Abdul Aziz said almost all districts except Langkawi and Bandar Baharu were expected to experience rain or thunderstorms this evening in line with the inter-monsoon phase, which typically brings rain or thunderstorms in the evening.

He advised the public to remain alert to weather changes and keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts. - FMT
