PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained two men, including a managing director of a sand supply company, suspected of corruption involving RM1 million.

An MACC source said the suspects, in their 50s, were arrested between 2pm and 8pm yesterday in Penang.

The source said the managing director was arrested at the state MACC office. The other, an unemployed man believed to be the main suspect, was nabbed at a restaurant, where he was allegedly paid the bribe.

According to the source, the main suspect was detained with three cheques for nearly RM1 million, given by a director of another sand supply company.

Besides the cheques, the anti-graft agency also seized four mobile phones.

The source also said the main suspect was believed to have threatened to lodge a report with MACC over alleged corrupt activity involving the other company if the payment demanded was not made.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said that one witness has had his statement recorded so far. - FMT
