KUCHING (April 3): Numerous faithful attended church on Good Friday in observance of the solemn occasion, commemorating the crucifixion of Christ.
At St Thomas’ Anglican Cathedral here, the faithful filled the church interior, with the congregation extending into the narthex.
Prayer services were held as early as 6.30am until 3pm, comprising services in English, Malay and Mandarin, with the Stations of the Cross as the highlight.
There were 14 stations altogether, starting from the event of Christ being condemned to death and ending with His burial.
During this time, the faithful, led by clergy, moved in procession from one station to another, singing hymns as they retraced Christ’s journey to the crucifixion.
At every station, the prescribed prayers and meditations were recited. The Veneration of the Cross ensued shortly after the procession.
Following Good Friday, the faithful will spend Holy Saturday in quiet reflection, awaiting the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. - borneopost
