Mahathir blames Malays for disunity, draws mixed reactions online

IT APPEARS Tun Mahathir is back in the pink of health after a slight mishap in January this year where he suffered a fractured right hip from falling in his house.

He is back to writing as can be seen in a recent post on X, stating that the Malays are the cause of their own disunity.

According to him, the Malays were once able to defeat the British because they were united under UMNO.

Today, many Malays believed that parties can bring victory, so this mentality has resulted in the creation of many parties that broke the unity of the Malays.

“The land of the Malay belongs to other people. Whose fault? The Malays are at fault. This is the last struggle of the Malays,” he said in a bleak statement.

Sadly, few netizens were impressed by his apocalyptic statement. According to @sitikasim, this was not a historical analysis but a political narrative which is simplified so emotion becomes stronger than facts.

She believed unity never depended on a political parti, but on justice and beliefs, not political monopoly. History is not the exclusive right of any party.

“If the strength of a race depends on one party, then we are not building a country. We are building dependence on  politics,” she added.

Then there was @ksampoh pointing out that UMNO never beat the British, that the process of world decolonisation happened. India, Sri Lanka, and Ghana received independence too.

The picture comments were equally hard hitting:

Also, @Wealthyncsh pointed out how hard it is to achieve unity, since Tun Mahathir’s grandchildren lead such a different lifestyle compared to the other Malays.

Netizen @moore98969435 further added that the people who made new parties were actually motivated to do so because they were observing the leaders of UMNO living lavishly.

“Pulau Batu Putih is Malay land. Did you forget who let it go?” said @jargon_ulu.

On another note, the medical team and specialist doctors treating former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are satisfied with the progress of his recovery and treatment process after 14 days of his admission to Institut Jantung Negara.

Dr Mahathir’s Press Secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said that he is still receiving physiotherapy treatment without surgery.

“However, the physiotherapy recovery process is still expected to take quite a long time,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
