KLANG:
The vehicle inspection centre Puspakom plans to stay open every day from November, and begin 24-hour operations from January, its chief executive Mahmood Razak Bahman said today.

However, implementation of the new hours would depend on public response to the seven-day schedule, as well as the availability of sufficient manpower.

He said Puspakom has had talks with the National Union of Commercial Workers and the Puspakom Staff Union for their views on the scheme, which would provide more reasonable working hours, of eight to 10 hours a day compared to the current 12 hours, as well as two rest days a week instead of one.

Puspakom also planned to introduce enhanced on-site inspection services for customers to make the inspection process more convenient for vehicle owners, he said.

Mahmood said Puspakom was working on introducing an award for “towering Malaysians”, and a new “community hero” recognition award.

“The new award programme is created specifically to honour those who bring about positive change to society or the environment, even though their contributions often go unnoticed by the general public,” he said.

He said the measures were expected to improve Puspakom’s overall operational efficiency while strengthening ties between the vehicle inspection agency and the local community.

Mahmood was speaking after launching a road safety event, the inaugural GiCheck Auto Weekend, at AEON Bukit Tinggi. The event features various technical demonstrations, including a simulation of “driving under the influence” and an exhibition of advanced driver assistance systems technology. - FMT
