RPK's son acquitted of theft, breaking and entry charges

Aidila Razak, Malaysiakini

The son of fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin's son was today acquitted of two charges of theft and breaking and entering.

NONEIn her judgement at the Shah Alam Magistrate Court today, Magistrate Norkamilah Aziz said that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Raja Azman Raja Petra (left).

According to Raja Azman's lawyer, J Chandra, the accused still has two other charges of theft pending against him.

“We will submit for a disposal of these charges following the decision today,” he said when contacted.

Raja Azman, 33, was arrested on May 6 and had on May 19 pleaded guilty to breaking into a house and stealing a number of items, including a mobile phone and a wrist watch.

He later changed his plea in June, and claimed trial for all charges, including to stealing a motorcycle.

He is due to face trial for the remainder two charges on Nov 25.

He was held at the Sungai Buloh prison until blogger Bernard Khoo, who is a friend of Raja Petra's, posted on March 2 this year a RM10,500 bail.

On Feb 8, Raja Azman was warded for swallowing a razor blade while in prison, following claims of physical and mental abuse by prison guards.

A probe by human rights commission Suhakam concluded that Raja Azman's injuries were self-inflicted and was not subject to abuse.

The commission, however, could not pinpoint the origins of the razor blade but claimed that it was normal for such items to be smuggled into prison.

Raja Azman's lawyers have disputed this.
