Perkasa takes DAP's Lim Guan Eng to task for asking BN component parties to make a stand against Ibrahim Ali.
KUALA LUMPUR: Perkasa’s secretary-general has fired a broadside at DAP’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, calling the latter a coward just like the communists.
Syed Hassan Syed Ali took the Penang chief minister to task for calling on Barisan Nasional’s component parties, apart from Umno, to stand united in battling Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali.
“This is the culture of cowardly thugs, who call their friends to fight one person,” he said.
“These cowards are like the communists, who hide behind the people, pretending to be ordinary citizens, members of NGOs or certain political parties,” he added.
Lim had urged BN component parties to make a stand when Ibrahim warned that Perkasa would launch a holy war if the Christian community continued to challenge the position of Islam.
The controversy erupted when the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia reported that DAP and Christian leaders were allegedly plotting to turn the country into a Christian state.
The report was based on unsubstantiated claims by two pro-Umno bloggers regarding what had apparently transpired at a closed-door meeting in the DAP-run state of Penang recentlty.
Both DAP and the Christian leaders had denied the allegation.
‘We’ll say holy war again if we have to’
Meanwhile, Syed Hassan said Lim’s statement had riled up both Perkasa members and the Malay community.
“What is more dangerous is that this coward wears a mask of believing in one religion when he does not believe in any religion.
“See how bold Lim’s statement is towards a Malay leader, and this is bound to anger those who are with Ibrahim as well as the Malays who support Perkasa’s cause,” he added.
Syed Hassan said the Perkasa president’s statement on the holy war had come about because the latter saw signs that people of other faiths had grown brave enough to challenge Islam.
“If this (such challenge) is discontinued, why should Ibrahim call for a holy war?” he said, adding that Lim was openly testing the patience of Perkasa.
“It appears that Lim’s statement wants to start something which will anger the Malays. DAP is testing our patience, we are not afraid.
“Don’t blame us if once again we say that we are prepared for a holy war if Islam’s position is challenged,” he said.
