Once Malays start to support DAP, Umno is finished

Once Malays start to support DAP, Umno is finished

Malaysians are increasingly getting the impression that UMNO has nothing better to do than to gun after and annoy DAP supporters.

No doubt UMNO is hellbent on doing so because chopping down DAP is vital and necessary for its survival, but critics point out that surely it can use tactics that are more intelligent which do not make them appear so bankrupt of ideas.

Prime Minister Najib Razak started the ball rolling last year, by insisting that UMNO must retain the federal government even if mean "crushed bodies", "lost lives" and "ethnic cleansing".

In the past weeks, a slew of UMNO leaders have mimicked his violent style, including Defense minister Zahid Hamidi, Malacca chief minister Ali Rustam, information chief Ahmad Maslan shooting poisioned darts at the DAP and its top leaders.

The Chinese predominant party is seen to be the weakest chink and the best spot for UMNO to deploy its brand of racial politicking to split apart the Pakatan Rakyat, which also consists of the Muslim-based PAS and Oppositon Leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR.

Once Malays start supporting DAP, then UMNO is finished!

The latest UMNO politician to jump on the bandwagon is none other than Noh Omar, the MP for Tanjong Karang and deputy chief of Selangor UMNO.

In the latest salvo, Noh said if DAP fielded Malay candidates in the fast-approaching 13th General Election, then it would prove itself to be greedy.

In the same breath, Noh also called on PAS to wake up from its stupor to the 'fact' that they are being used by DAP. The Malay word used by Noh is 'diperkudakan' with the root word being 'kuda' or 'horse' meaning that DAP is riding on PAS as if PAS is a horse.

"By making such statements, it shows that UMNO fears the Malays especially those who are fence-sitters will vote for the DAP Malays," Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim told Malaysia Chronicle.

Khalil Idham Lim, the PAS assemblyman for Titi Serong in Perak, minced no words, saying "if the Malays start supporting DAP, UMNO is finished!".

Psy-war pitting DAP against PAS, PKR

Like Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Noh had also accused the DAP of wanting to field a Malay candidate because it wanted take the Mentri Besar post from PAS and PKR.

Some states in the country, such as Perak, disallow other races from becoming chief minister.

"This shows how low UMNO has sunk. They are playing psy-war amongst the Pakatan partners. Their intention is to scare the PAS grassroots at a time when our party is about to hold our annual congress," former Perak Mentri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin told Malaysia Chronicle.

Nizar is a member of the PAS central committee and the party is due to hold its annual congress cum party polls from June 3 to 5.

His sentiments were echoed by Khalil who slammed the UMNO accusations as preposterous and defended DAP.

"In Ipoh, DAP has already pledged to give full support to Nizar Jamaluddin. Why is UMNO so concerned about what happens in Pakatan, we wonder?" said Khalil.

Spoiling the chances for future DAP Malay candidates

But 'whacking' DAP seems to be the favourite hobby of UMNO politicians these days, done with ulterior motive, the intention of gaining recognition and political mileage.

Additionally, they also hope to make the rural Malays hate the DAP and spoil the chances of any of its Malay candidates for future electoral contests.

"DAP and Pakatan doesn't need any advice from likes of Noh. We have our coalition policies, no need for them to be so busy-body," DAP MP for Beruas Ngeh Koo Ham told Malaysia Chronicle.

"What we are concerned about are many of the statement made by these so-called UMNO leaders are seditious in nature and can trigger hate-crimes against the non-Malays."
