PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang has warned against provocations that will give pretext for the government to launch a crackdown.
Telling the government to refrain from using the Internal Security Act following Perkasa-UMNO mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia's report over the weekend that Christian leaders wanted to replace the country's official religion, Hadi said such issues about the fear of Christianity had been deliberately created every time an election was in the corner.
“The issues over the past few days are nothing more than political ploy before the election. I hope they don’t provoke during the last minute before election like in the past, when ISA was used against innocent people. This is undemocratic and not right,” he told the media after the opening of 12th Terengganu state assembly.
The Marang member of parliament reiterated Pakatan Rakyat's commitment to defend all that have been enshrined in the Federal constitution.
“Islam as the religion of the federation, as well as the position of the royal institution enshrined in the Federal constitution, are accepted unanimously by Pakatan Rakyat,” he stressed.
He urged all parties to play a part in ensuring the racial harmony in the country, pointing out that dialogues could solve any issue such as was the case in the controversy surrounding the use of the term 'Allah' in Malay Christian texts.
