The admission by the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V that he plans to marry has been met with joy by Kelantanese.
A Bernama survey found that Kelantanese are impatient to know the identity of the lucky woman who will become the consort.
"Alhamdulillah. I am happy to hear that the Sultan wants to marry. After this, I can shake the Sultan's hands while my wife can shake the consort's hands," said Mat Jusoh, 72, of the Land Rehabilitation Scheme (RKT) in Mengkebang, near Kuala Krai.
Mat Jusoh said that he had met the Sultan twice when the ruler came visiting people in the area.
The Sultan told a special press conference at Istana Negeri in Kubang Kerian Thursday that he is looking forward to marriage.
However, the 42 year-old ruler did not elaborate on the matter.
He was proclaimed the Sultan of Kelantan with the title Sultan Muhammad V on Sept 13 last year.
Meanwhile, Hasnah Aziz, 59, of Pasir Puteh said that the people are happy with the news and are looking forward to learn more about the bride.
"Although no dates had been mentioned, we pray for happiness for the Sultan and his partner," she added.
Amalina Noor Ali, 22, a student in Shah Alam said that she and her colleagues are also happy with news of the Sultan's marriage plan.
"The Sultan is a people's ruler and much loved by Kelantanese. So when the Sultan said that he plans to marry, it is big news although we are staying outside Kelantan," she added.
