Umno sec-gen's 4-storey Taman Duta bungalow damaged by fire

The home of Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was damaged in a fire believed to have been caused by a faulty air conditioning unit.

He said the incident occurred at about 5.30am at his four-storey bungalow located along Lorong 5, Taman Duta here.

“I was fast asleep when my 15-year-old son Tengku Muhammad Hafis woke me up, complaining that the air-conditioning unit in his room was burning before I rushed to his room on the fourth floor to inspect.

“I tried to put out the fire, but it spread too quickly which led me to instruct all my family members to get out of the house,” he said, adding that he immediately notified the Fire and Rescue Department.

The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 6.05am before proceeding to bring the raging fire under control.

Tengku Adnan said the fourth floor of his bungalow was totally destroyed and many other parts in his home were damaged as well.

“Thank God, all 16 people in my house were unharmed,” he said, adding that he was unsure of the total cost of the damage.
