IPF disappointed with Palanivel's objection

Indian Progressive Front (IPF) president M Sambanthan is disappointed with a statement by MIC president G Palanivel that MIC will object to other Indian-based parties seeking full membership
status in the BN.

Speaking toBernama in Kuala Lumpur today, Sambanthan said MIC was not the only party that fought for (the welfare of) the Indian community.

Other parties, like Makkal Sakti Malaysia and Malaysian Indian United Party, were also fighting for the same cause, he said.

"MIC is like a big brother to IPF and other parties... hence, as a big brother, Palanivel should accept IPF and other Indian political parties.

"However, he (Palanivel) has threatened that MIC would leave BN if BN accepts the membership of other Indian-based parties," Sambanthan said.

"If Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak were to decide tomorrow that BN is prepared to accept IPF as its component party, can I challenge him (Palanivel) to leave MIC?," he asked.

He said the party was the single largest party representing the Indians in the government and questioned whether MIC could even allow splinter parties to join the BN.

On whether IPF would continue with its efforts to join BN, Sambanthan said: "We are still hoping that BN, under the leadership of the prime minister, will come out with a positive decision and take into consideration what we have fought for over the past 20 years.

"We have been with BN, through good and bad times. Although we have received various offers from opposition parties that are willing to back us up, we have remained loyal to BN."
