A brief video recording of the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department's (Jais) raid on the Aug 3 gathering at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) has made its way online.
The 1.25-minute clipping, uploaded yesterday by a blogger called Screwkuat, shows Jais authorities making their way to the thanksgiving dinner held in a hall in the church compound in Petaling Jaya.
Jais has denied that the unannounced visit was a raid, saying it was merely an "inspection" visit after it received a tip-off that Muslims were present at DUMC's 'buka puasa' and thanksgiving ceremony.
The inspection was made under Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995.
Titled 'Jalan-jalan buka puasa, Thanksgiving Dinner Hall 3, Damansara Utama Methodist Church 3 Ogos 2011', the clip shows a group of Jais and police officers making their into the church building and into the banquet hall.
"The video proves that Jais did not conduct a raid as claimed. (News portals) on the other side, especially Malaysiakini and The Malaysian Insider lied and defamed Jais to hide their evil work," a message on the video says.
The clipping is said to be the first part of a longer recording, which is to be released at a later date to affirm that Jais has evidence to prove its claims of proselytising at the event.
Yesterday, 12 Muslims who attended the thanksgiving dinner were quizzed by Jais. The DUMC event is being investigated under the Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Amongst Muslims) Enactment 1988 for "the offence of persuading, influencing or inciting a Muslim to change his faith".
The 12 had their details recorded by Jais officers at the fund-raising dinner, which was hosted by a non-governmental organisation, Harapan Komuniti.
According to the authorities, those present at the dinner were singing religious songs such as 'Alhamdulillah' and 'Allah-u-Akbar' and that quizzes on Islam were handed out to participants. Malaysiakini
