6% SERVICE TAX CHARGED FOR PREPAID TELECO RELOADS

Complaints from members of the public have been received that teleco retailers have started to charge an additional 60 sen when a prepaid reload card of RM10 is purchased.

It was earlier reported that these teleco companies and their retailers will not charge the 6% GST until the government makes an announcement since the government had decided to defer these additional tax collection since September 2011, so as not to burden the public.

It was reported that these additional payment for reload cards are not only charged in the Klang Valley area but also in Pahang, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.

Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) who are responsible to oversee that teleco customers are not charged the additional 6% are so busy with 'unimportant' issues.
