“The DC (Disciplinary Committee) set aside (the suspension) and replaced with a severe reprimand after taking into consideration M Manoharan had shown remorse by apologising and taking down the Facebook comment immediately,” the party said in a statement today.
DAP slapped the suspension on the Kota Alam Shah rep on September 23 over his remarks suggesting that the national flag be altered.
The DAP lawmaker posted on his Facebook page last month that the Jalur Gemilang should be redesigned, saying it caused confusion due to its similarity to the United States’ Stars and Stripes.
He was suspended for six months starting from September 27.
Manoharan’s (picture) comment had drawn fierce criticism from Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders who attacked him for being unpatriotic with his demand.
Despite his apology, PAS — DAP’s partner in Pakatan Rakyat — had also insisted Manoharan be punished.
