The university claims that the two Africans are former students but when police raided a hostel room, they found the duo there.
KUALA LUMPUR: The police seized bundles of forged US and Euro notes from a hostel room in the Islamic Internationl University (UIA) in Gombak and arrested two Africans.
A Nigerian, who was being investigated in connection with an internet scam, had led the police team from Bukit Aman to the room yesterday evening.
A police soure told FMT that the officers had found forged notes in the possession of the Nigerian who claimed that he had received it from two Guineans.
He said when the officers checked with the university’s security office, they were informed that the two Guineans were sacked from UIA two months ago.
However, the Nigerian told the police officers that the Guineans were still staying in one of the hostel rooms and that he had met them there last week.
“When our officers checked the particular room, both men were there and when we searched the room, we found a bag full of the forged currencies under the bed,” said the source.
He added that the police were checking with UIA as to how students who were sacked could still live on campus.
“We are investigating if they had used forged student passes or took advantage of security lapses at check points in the campus,” he said.
