Shahrizat: Don't drag children into dirty politics

Children should not be dragged into political mud-slinging, regardless of whether it is the opposition being targeted or the BN government, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

"My principle is that we cannot bring children into the political arena. Not only for the opposition, but anyone," she said when met by reporters at a seminar in Kuala Lumpur today.

It was claimed that Lim's 16-year-old son had outraged the modesty of a fellow classmate, and that the DAP secretary-general had purportedly paid a large sum of money to keep the matter under wraps by transferring the son to another school.

Lim had on Tuesday lashed out at pro-Umno bloggers for trying to finish off his political career by wrecking the life of his teenage son with “morally despicable and barbaric” lies.

Lim revealed that he had transferred his son to another school as he had promised the teenager, after the son scored well in his PMR exams.

Speaking on the matter today, Shahrizat said whether it was an opposition leader’s son was irrelevant, for minors should not be targeted or otherwise used to get political points.

She also urged supporters of both the opposition and government to leave children out of politics.

However, Shahrizat added, bloggers should not be labelled as being partisan to any side.

NONE"Even as (Umno) Wanita chief. I don't know which blogger is pro-Umno."

Asked to comment on Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's snide remarks over the allegation, Sharizat replied: "That one, you go ask Khairy".

Khairy had tweeted that “Mungkin dia roboh Kampung Buah Pala sebab nak ganti dengan Kampung Buah Dada' (Perhaps he demolished Buah Pala village to replace it with Buah Dada (Breast) Village), in reference to a villagebeing developed project in Penang.

The allegation first emerged last Sunday, following which blogger Papagomo put up an image of a girl alleged to be the victim of molest.

It was later revealed that the image posted on Papagomo's blog was that of 21-year-old Anya Sun Corke, a British citizen and one-time Hong Kong chess champion, studying in the US. She had never studied in Penang nor come into contact with Lim’s son.

The principal of SMK Heng Ee in Penang, where the molest incident was alleged to have taken place, has categorically denied that any such incident occurred.
