The fracas that broke out two weeks ago during a ceramah by PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu which saw several persons injured may repeat itself tonight.
According to an NGO, some 1,000 veterans and their offspring will demonstrate against Mohamad, or more popularly known as Mat Sabu, during his ceramah at Rembau tonight over his remark on the Bukit Kepong incident.
Gerakan Memartabatkan Pejuang Negara chairperson Major (Rtd) Razali Zakaria told the Malay daily Sinar Harian about the planned demonstration.
"We also want to know whether the ceramah at Rembau has a permit from the police.
"More than 10 police reports had been made on Tuesday and Wednesday against Mat Sabu's ceramah in the area of Rembau and Seremban, and I believe the number will rise," the Malay daily quoted Razali as saying.
The ceramah tonight at Kampung Pulau Bintongan, Rembau, is organised by a local opposition party branch. The speakers include Mat Sabu and Rembau PKR division chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
Last month, Mat Sabu (at left in photo) was charged with criminal defamation for allegedly saying in an Aug 21 speech that Mat Indera, who led the 1950 attack on the Bukit Kepong police station, was the real freedom fighter and not the police officers defending the station.
However, the unfazed politician has continued to travel around the country delivering political speeches defending his stand.
The accusation and threat swirl
During his ceramah at Ampangan, Seremban, on Sept 24, a fracasbroke out after members of Malay rights NGO Perkasa protesting against Mat Sabu tried to approach the stage as the PAS leader was speaking.
Two PAS supporters sustained injuries during the incident, while Perkasa claimed that one of its men was also hurt.
PAS then accused Perkasa of'planning' the act of provocation to disrupt the ceramahwhile Negri Sembilan Perkasa threatenedmore protests against Mat Sabu if he helds any more ceramah in the state.
Apart from demonstration, Razali also said that his NGO would send three representatives to meet Mat Sabu at tonight's ceramah to hand over a protest memorandum demanding an apology from him.
"We will send a letter to the organiser asking for space to meet Mat Sabu. This is all we want to do. We don't want to make trouble, " he said.
On the other hand, Badrul Hisham, who is more popularly known as Chegubard, welcomed anyone practising mature politics to submit memoranda during the ceramah.
Chegubard called on members of the public to attend the event, and gave his assurance that the presence of security personnel and reporters would prevent any untoward incident.
The objective of the ceramah, he said, was to provide an explanation on Mat Sabu's controversial remark and Malaysian history.
