Unrepentant, Muhyiddin steps up attack on boy

Unrepentant, Muhyiddin steps up attack on boy

KUALA LUMPUR - Despite revelation that UMNO bloggers used the photograph of a British chess player to level accusations against the teenage son of Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin said his denial was not enough to proof his son's innocence.

“A mere denial is not enough. If not in the wrong, ask the police to investigate and clear matters," Muhyiddin reportedly said.

Earlier, it was discovered that UMNO bloggers, who claimed that Lim's son was transfered from his current school due to a molest case, cropped a photo of former international chess Grandmaster, Anya Sun Corke, claiming she was the victim. Anya had since denied the claims, saying she had not never known Guan Eng's son nor physically violated.

The accusation against Lim's son was led by the bloggers and Bukit Gelugor UMNO division chief Novandri Hasan Basri, and later supported by UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin through a series of snide remarks on Twitter.

Lim had angrily dismissed the accusations, saying his son's school transfer was a promise he made for getting good results in the PMR examination. Lim also called UMNO leaders who participated in the allegations as "beastly".

Penang Education director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin had also rubbished the allegation and asked those perpetuated the controversy to leave children out of politics.

Muhyiddin however said Lim should not "blame anyone”.

“When their have their own problems, they start to blame UMNO. However, if there is a fault, we have to find out what is the main cause,” said Muhyiddin.

Reacting to Muhyiddin's latest remarks, a surprised Lim said:

“Instead of condemning Khairy or Dr Novandri for practicing 'the lowest of gutter politics', Muhyiddin has seen fit to uestion my denials and that I should not blame others for the allegations.

"How can Muhyiddin Yassin be so cruel?” Lim added.
