Zul Noordin is Perkasa new veep

Right-wing Malay group Perkasa today elected controversial Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin as its new vice-president.

NONEDebate proceedings at the organisation's second general assembly meeting in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon was suspended for the emergency motion to be brought before delegates.

The surprise motion was presented by supreme council member Muhammad Zahid Md Arip to which delegates unanimously voiced their support.

Zulkifli was a PKR parliamentarian before he joined Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali as an independent MP.

Zul ‘has seen the light’

In introducing Zulkifli as a candidate for Perkasa vice-president, Arip described the former ally of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim as someone who had seen the light following a fallout with his friend.

"We have a new leader who dare to speak the truth and voice out on matters concerning Islam, Malay and Malay rulers," said Arip.

Zulkifli was sacked from PKR in March last year after he launch a tirade against party members and fellow PAS MP Khalid Samad over the use of the word ‘Allah’ by Christians.

He replaces Mokthar Samad who vacated the seat in April this year.
