Even as the storm generated by revelations of financial improprieties in the National Feedlot Corporation intensifies, PAS's Parit Buntar member of parliament has warned of another plan by the government to boost their political coffers.
Mujahid Yusof Rawa (right) questioned the rushed appointment of the financial board for National Healthcare Financing Authority, saying it could turn into another cash-cow for Barisan Nasional.
“Is this a new government-linked company (GLC) and a cash cow to BN?” asked Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
According to Mujahid, NFHA, which starts operation in the first quarter of next year, will start to collect premiums from Malaysians in order to receive treatment at government or private hospitals and clinics.
“Besides paying premium, we also have to fork out extra money for basic treatment. So, the question is what will happen to the people who have no income? Where will they get their treatment?” he asked.
The PAS central committee member also expressed worry that NFHA would turn into another GLC led by a political crony in near future.
“If this is so, then we are dead because the possibility of money being abused is great, based on the way GLCs are run.
“We have seen many cases of top management personnel in GLCs receiving salaries and perks that take up a huge percentage of the operations cost,” Mujahid said.
Mujahid said NHFA would collect millions of ringgit in monthly premiums from Malaysians.
“And this money will be at the BN government’s disposal,” he added.
