Another ex-Anwar ally, Nallakaruppan appointed senator

KS Nallakaruppan, once an ally but now a bitter foe of PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim, will be sworn in as senator in the Dewan Negara tomorrow.

The announcement was made through a media advisory circulated to journalists in Parliament today, according to a Berita Harianreport.

Nallakaruppan who was once described by Anwar as his "tennis partner" was roped into PKR from MIC to help garner the party's Indian support.

In 2007, Nallakaruppan was set to become the party's vice-president after clinching the second highest number of nominations for the position.

NONEHowever, he was told to withdraw by Anwar for unspecified reasons, leading to a fallout between the two men.

Nallakaruppan later formed his own Indian party, the Malaysian Indian United Party, and lobbied to bring it into the fold of BN.

He has since been a critic of his former ally and had backed BN election campaigns in the 2008 general election.

The appointment comes after former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor (left) was appointed senator on April 29 last year.

Ezam, also once an Anwar ally, has since rejoined Umno and is a fierce critic of the latter.
