Anwar: BN behind latest probe in Datuk T sex video

KEPONG, Nov 16 – A defiant Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim accused Barisan Nasional (BN) today of masterminding the latest probe against him in the Datuk T sex video saga, claiming his political foes wanted to revive the mystery over the identity of the man in the video.

The Opposition Leader (picture), who is still facing possible conviction for the second sodomy charge in his career, charged that BN was now growing “nervous” at the thought of facing Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the coming polls and were scrambling to use underhanded tactics to topple him before the polls.

Sounding angry, Anwar told reporters here that he refused to be cowed into submission and vowed that he would keep “fighting hard” against all allegations.

“This is what they do. Insyaallah, we have no choice but to keep fighting hard, fight them in the polls.

“They are nervous about facing us and so, this is the dirty, evil tactics that they use,” he said.

Anwar was speaking to reporters at the Kepong police station here where he was summoned to answer allegations that he had knowingly provided false information in the Datuk T sex video case.

The latest probe was opened after investigating officer DSP Shanmugan Moorthy lodged a police report claiming Anwar has committed the offence under section 182 of the Penal Code.

The crime is punishable with a six-month jail term or a fine of RM2,000.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin had recently said the probe was complete and investigation papers handed over to the Attorney-General but Anwar said today the case was sent back to the police to include his statement.

He slammed the police for failing to act on a previous report he had lodged against the Datuk T trio where he accused them of criminal intimidation.

“What was my report? It was about political threat, criminal defamation, criminal intimidation. But now, they want to use this investigation against me because they want to identify the man in the video,” he complained.

Anwar has repeatedly stood by his denial that he was the man seen having sex with a prostitute in the 21-minute video which was first aired to the media in cloak and dagger fashion by a mysterious ‘Datuk T’ at a prestigious hotel in April this year.

It was later revealed that Datuk T referred to three notable figures – former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim.

Anwar complained today that the revival of the case was a deliberate attempt to disrupt his duties as Opposition Leader.

“I should be in Parliament but I have to go to the station. It is endless. Other criminals, like murderers and cattle stealers... they are safe,” he said.

Anwar is currently on trial for allegedly sodomising former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan, a charge the opposition insists is politically motivated. The former deputy prime minister was previously convicted of sodomising his aide and his driver in 1999, but was released in 2004 after the decision was overturned.
