BN told to stop fear campaign over Selangor water

PAS has called on the BN government to stop its fear-mongering campaign over water supply in Selangor, saying it was deliberately refusing to help solve what the BN claims is an impending water crisis.

BN claims that water capacity in the state has lowered by 5 percent, and would breach the capacity level.

Kuala Selangor member of parliament Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Selangor had ensured adequate water supply to the people, but its efforts were being undermined by the BN, and did not get any positive response from the Energy, Green Technology and Water ministry.

He slammed the Federal government’s "hypocrisy", saying it was willing to spend up to RM7 billion for the Air Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant.

“This cannot be taken lightly as it will increase the Federal government’s debt, which is already off the charts,” he added.

Dzulkefly questioned the rationale to spend some RM6.5 billion in favour of Selangor’s water concessionaires.

“The payment is 73 percent above market price. The Federal government has also loaned tens of millions ringgit to SYABAS (Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor). And the loan is without interest and any payment until 2015,” Dzulkefly, who is also PAS Central Committee member, added.

Last October, Dzulkefly revealed that the Federal government had given RM110 million to SYABAS.

“Is this the best way to use taxpayers’ money? These companies do not have any links with the government,” he asked.
