'Bring on the molest witnesses,' challenge cops

Police have challenged alleged molest victim Wong Bee Fong to produce witnesses in court that police officers molested her.

She now faces charges for obstructing police duties over the same alleged incident.

“We have enough witnesses to prove she was obstructing police personnel from performing their duties.

“If she is unhappy, then bring her witnesses to court,” Kajang OCPD Abdul Rashid Wahab was quoted as saying in today’s Oriental Daily.

He elaborated that police investigations following the alleged incident found that the molest allegations were false. Instead, she was investigated for obstructing police duties.

However, no action was taken at the time.

“Male police officers are not allowed to search female suspects, but how can you be sure that she was molested by male officers on that day?” Abdul Rashid countered.

“If she insists that the police had acted in bad faith, let it be. We will leave it to the court to decide.”

‘Stopped at a roadblock’

The 39-year-old accounts manager claims she was stopped at a roadblock about 1.55am on Aug 13, 2004, on suspicion of drunk driving.

In the alleged incident in Taman Connaught, Kuala Lumpur, she accused police of asking for a bribe.

When she refused and drove to Batu 9 police station, she was chased and forced towards the General Operations Force building by a brown Proton Wira, claimed Wong.

She said she was molested by about 11 uniformed police, including an officer from the roadblock, as soon as she alighted from her car.

The issue was raised on Aug 20 this year when her lawyer Keppy Wong called for a press conference, complaining that no action had been taken.

On Nov 2, police finally paid her a visit - to detain her overnight and charge her under Section 186 of the Penal code at a Kajang magistrate’s court in Putrajaya.
