Dep sports minister slammed for his 'unprofessional' 'ampu-bodek' comments

NONE

PKR leaders slammed Deputy Sports Minister Razali Ibrahim for "shooting his mouth off" and blaming without proof that the opposition was to blame for the bad reception given by Indonesian fans to the Malaysian team at the ongoing SEA Games in Jakarta.

"Razali is a good example why it is easy for any world citizen to dislike the current Malaysian government. He is boorish, amateurish and talks without class. He is a sad example of the standard of the Malaysian Cabinet," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle, without micning any words.

Indeed, Pakatan Rakyat leaders may be right in taking umbrage for the brash remarks made by Razali, a junior minister, even though he may be trying to "ampu-bodek" his bosses at the ruling Umno party. With general elections expected to be held soon, Razali might be trying to gain attention as the competition to be selected to contest seats intensifies.

Razali was also flayed for trying to implicate Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in his ministry's mess-up in Jakarta. Anwar is a very popular figure in Indonesia.

"Why is it that they reserve such hatred for us? Why not Thailand? Why not others? It is not because of the perceived maltreatment of Indonesians locally. In my opinion, it is because opposition leaders have been making a bee line for Indonesia to bad mouth our country," Razali told Parliament during a debate on the Supply Bill 2012.

"They say bad things about Malaysia such as the word Maling, Indonesian for thief, is used. It is easy to grow up hating a country that has been villified, for example we all grew up hating Soviet Russia."

Razali, the MP for Muar, was also ridiculed for trying to deflect growing criticism of his ministry's inept handling of the Malaysian contingent. Several fiascoes have caught public attention, and the latest has been a bungle that led to the Malaysian 400m relay quartet, which won the gold, missing their own medal award ceremony.

Again, Razali insisted that his ministry was not aware of the delay and as a result, unable to assist in getting the athletes to receive their medals as scheduled.

This time, he blamed the SEA Games organizers for the blunder.

"Their award ceremony was postponed almost twenty four hours after the final event was over. No reason was given by organisers. We are looking at the matter seriously as medal award ceremonies were never postponed like that," said Razali.

"It is not professional for me to comment on their perceived shortcomings, but regardless, there are adverse effects to us."

Razali's whining sparked comments that only "unprofessional" person was him in the entire episode.

"At the rate he is going, it is everybody's fault except his. He is wasting Parliament's time with his nonsensical accusations. It would be a much greater help to improve Malaysia's image and thereby bilateral ties if we had more competent and professional Ministers, rather than those who blame everyone except themselves. No wonder the Indonesians have such a bad impression of the Malaysian government," said Jui Meng.
