With yet another revelation today of alleged mismanagement of government funds by the National Feedlot Corporation, PAS is demanding that the embattled corporation's bank accounts and spending activities be frozen.
“We demand its account and all its activities be put under moratorium immediately until an independent audit could dissect the company’s activities.
"Since the issue came up, we have yet to see any action taken by the government especially by the prime minister, even when the allegation is serious,” said PAS Kuala Selangor member of parliament Dzulkefly Ahmad (left).
Dzulkefly said prime minister Najib Razak must clearly explain whether the funds to NFC were meant as a grant or a loan with an interest of two percent.
“If it is loan, there must be some terms and conditions," added Dzulkefly.
Last weekend, Agriculture and Agro-based minister Noh Omar revealed that approval of the quarter-billion ringgit project had never reached cabinet level.
Amid the storm, a press conference to explain the matter hosted by NFC executive chairman Mohamad Salleh Ismail, the husband of UMNO Wanita head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, only deepened the controversy.
Umrah trip and Singapore companies
Earlier today, PKR secretary general Saifuddin Nasution revealed that Salleh's office made payment amounting RM31,580 for the pilgrimage to Makkah involving him and his son Shahinur Izran in 2010.
Saifuddin also said that financial records of the corporation showed shady dealings between NFC and two other companies owned by Shahrizat's family, the National Meat and Livestocks Corporation (NMLC) and Real Food Company (RFC).
According to Saifuddin, financial records as of June last year show two Singapore-based firms Global Biofuture Pte Ltd and Meatworks Singapore Pte Ltd, also owned by Shahrizat’s family, currently being debted to RFC, with Global Biofuture owing RM939,495, while Meaworks, a high dining eatery chain, owing RM2,416,815.
Urging Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to probe, Saifuddin (left) said the core question about the scandal was about government accountability in awarding the RM250 million project to a company which has no experience in cattle rearing.
“Worse, public funds of RM250 million have been channelled without any repayment period and without cabinet approval,” he stressed.
Saifuddin further said that the project was awarded by a non-cabinet committee chaired by former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the father-in-law of UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who has been at the forefront in defending Shahrizat over her family's involvement.
