Mydin boss poses 1M'sia choc milk dare to Pua

The war of words between DAP publicity chief Tony Pua and Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) has taken a strange twist involving pledges to publicly drink a mug of the company’s chocolate milk to prove that it is safe.

NONEThe episode began on Monday with a Twitter exchange between Pua and Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang regarding the quality and safety of KR1M products.

Last night, Tan agreed to consume one mug of KR1M’s chocolate milk on the condition that Pua pledges RM1,000 to a charity of the latter’s choice.

Pua agreed to the challenge, prompting Mydin Mohamed Holding Bhd’s boss Ameer Ali Mydin to join the fray and upped the ante.

Ameer said that he would drink a mug of the beverage in front of Pua, if both individuals donate RM10,000 to a charity of their choice.

NONE“I will drink 1m'sia Choc milk 1 mug in front of yb we both donate rm10k each to charity of our choice - bolih ke yb Tony pua,” wrote Ameer.

At the time of writing, Pua has yet to respond to the challenge.

Mydin Holdings operates KR1M and has claimed Pua’s series of attacks against the company’s products were based on half truths aimed at tarnishing the thrift shop’s reputation.

On Wednesday, the company pulled its milk powder from the shelves after Pua alleged that the product failed to meet health requirements.

Tan out to prove point

Meanwhile, contacted yesterday evening, Tan said he was serious about the challenge.

“I don’t expect this (chocolate drink) to be like Starbucks or Milo, but it’s definitely not going to kill you,” said Tan.

NONETan said that he will be performing the act in a couple of weeks when an Alor Setar KR1M outlet opens early next month.

“I’m getting a chocolate drink, a charity will receive a RM1,000 donation and we’ll prove there is nothing wrong with KR1M products.

“This is a win-win situation. A three-in-one deal, and Pua can do a charitable act,” he said.

Commenting on the DAP’s continuous criticism of KR1M’s products, Tan said the party was seeking to cast aspersion on KR1M’s products.

  1. It looks really for a certain cause. I think more and more businessman should do something like this if they are trying to help a cause. True that it's a win-win situation.
