Subra (Whiskey Maniam) still unconscious following 13-hour surgery

former mic deputy president s subramaniamPETALING JAYA, Malaysia - Former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam remains unconscious after undergoing a 13-hour brain surgery at Pantai Hospital on Saturday.

Former secretary and close friend R. Balakrishnan said Subramaniam was still warded in the intensive care unit and doctors estimated that he would be kept there until at least today.

"His condition is stable and his family members are at the hospital to keep tabs on his progress," he said last night.

He added that doctors have said it was not uncommon for a patient to remain unconscious more than 24 hours after a very long surgery.

Subramaniam, 67, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday where doctors diagnosed him with mild cerebral bleeding due to high blood pressure.

He was promptly wheeled in for surgery.

Subramaniam had complained of feeling unwell on Friday night after attending a function and was admitted to Assunta Hospital for the night before seeking treatment at Pantai Hospital.
