Umno-BN harassment: Police begin new probe against Anwar

Umno-BN harassment: Police begin new probe against Anwar

With Prime Minister Najib Razak expected to call for snap polls within the next two months, police have suddenly begun a new investigation against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"It is sheer harassment by the Umno-BN against Anwar," PKR vice president N Surendran told Malaysia Chronicle.

Anwar is the de-facto head of both the PKR party and the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. Police have informed him that he will be investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving "false information" but have not specified why or in relation to which case.

The police, who are required by law and professionalism to act independently, are under the thumb of the Home Ministry run by Najib's cousin Hishammuddin Hussein.

With the 13th general election due to be held soon, Umno-BN is desperate to chip away at Anwar's political resurgence. But like the internationally-condemned Sodomy II case, the Datuk T sex conspiracy has boomeranged and can further hurt rather than help Umno, the main mastermind behind the far-fetched plot that included the top editors of several TV stations and newspapers.

Datuk T again?

It is believed that this may be in relation to the notorious Datuk T sex video case, which three Umno members have admitted they were behind. The trio are Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca Chief Minister Rahim Thamby Chik and Shuaib Lazim.

They had 'produced' a video tape showing a man they alleged was Anwar having sex with a prostitute. Anwar, who denied being the main in the tape, had lodged a police report on the matter. Later on during the police probe, the police insisted that US experts were '99%' sure the man was Anwar.

Nonetheless, the Umno trio was let off with a small fine for public screening pornographic material, while the matter was dropped due to public anger at the Umno-BN's vulgar use of the video, screening clips of a man about to have sex on prime time TV with total disregard to the youth audience.

More details later on Friday

Indeed, few Malaysians believe the man was Anwar, who is slim and fragile in health. Moreover, Anwar's bone doctor from Germany had recently testified that he had very little mobility and strength in his lower limbs, whereas the man in the tape was much bigger in built and cavorted with great energy with the prostitute.

Surendran and Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah will be holding a press conference on Friday the 11th November, at 11.30am to brief reporters once they have received more information from the police.
