KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Popular singer Yuna, who is based in the United States, has confirmed reports that her award in the best song category at the recent 18th Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM-18) two weeks ago has been revoked.

The Alor Star lass, whose real name is Yunalis Zarai, had received the award for her song “Penakut” (Coward).

She acknowledged that the award had been withdrawn through the micro-blogging site Twitter yesterday.

“Yeap. It’s true. But I just wanna say thank you to all the fans who loved ‘Penakut’ as much as I do,” said the winner of the Berita Harian Popular Female Artist 2010.

“Sorry I can’t answer your questions, it’s best that everyone refer back to RIM/AIM. Im only a singer songwriter. But thank u for the support!”

The winner in the best song category is now Anuar Zain’s “Sedetik Lebih”.

The organisers are expected to hold a press conference this afternoon to explain their decision.

Previous media reports claimed that there was a mistake with the vote count that led to “Penakut” being announced the winner for the best song at AIM-18.

Usually the best song will be chosen from the winners of the pop, rock, nasyid or the best ethnic song categories.

Accordingly, the best song should have been a contest between “Sedetik Lebih” (pop category), “Pelita” (rock), “Pedoman” (nasyid) and “Joget Tak Senang Hati” (ethnic).
